EKG
11/01/07 at 14:31:22

Angry I recently applied for life insurance and they made me do an EKG along with my bloodwork. Then the insurance company came back to say that my EKG was "abnormal" and they doubled my payment. My doctor has never told me that I have an abnormal EKG, and I have had several in the past. Has this happened to anyone else? Any advice? Does anyone know of a company that won't make an older guy (I am 60) do the EKG?

I applied a few years ago and they told me that my liver enzymes were "abnormal". I just went to my own doctor and had another test done, and it came back fine. I asked if I could turn that in and they let me, and they ended up giving me a better price. I would just go to your doctor and have a new EKG done. This way if you do have a problem you will find out about it before it is too late!

I had a similiar experience except they told me I had high cholesterol. I have never been told by any doctor that my cholesterol was high. I ended up getting my cholesterol retested with my PCP and the results were fine. I sent the results to the insurance company and they ended up giving me a cheaper payment.  Wink

To Boyd 99- I think an EKG is required if you reach a certain age and also based on how much insurance you are applying for. I am 64 and I only needed a very small amount of coverage for burial fees/final expenses. When I took my exam for West Coast Life, I was not asked to complete an EKG.

How much coverage did you get with West Coast Life? I was hoping for at least $500,000. That is how much I applied for with the other company and they made me do the EKG.

Boyd99- I am 60 years old and I applied for less than $500,000 and I was still asked to complete an ekg.
