disabilty insurance for blue collar workers
11/02/07 at 16:38:09

I tried to purchase disability insurance in case something happens to me while on the job. I work in construction, so anything can happen in this type of work. Especially when your 20 stories up in the air with nothing holding on to you except a tiny rope. The insurance company told me I would get "blue collar" prices because of my line of work. I think that as long as I  pay for my insurance, I should get to pay the same amount as a "white collar worker". Any one else have an experience like this?? Sad

I haven't had this experience, but I would imagine the insurance company thinks you are more likely to become disabled than someone who sits at a desk typing for 8 hours a day. I think it makes sense to charge a higher premium.

Buttercup, if you think about it, it does make sense to charge more for people that work in higher risk jobs. If the insurance company did not charge a higher premium to these individuals such as yourself, then they would end up losing money and have to charge their customers even higher premiums. I guess in a way it contributes to the greater good. Game on!  Cool
