"High Risk"

My frustration with the health insurance industry is reaching catastrophic proportions! Let me tell you my story because I am curious to know how many other people this has happened to! I was working full time with benefits and then me and my family had to move. In our new location I started a home business and so I had to apply for life insurance on my own. I was declined by everyone I applied with because of a heart murmur! A silly little heart murmur that I go to the doctor for once a year and suddenly I can't get health insurance! Worse yet they refer me to the state's "High Risk Pool" where I was able to get a policy but at a rate 200% higher than "normal" people! I pay $400.00 a month for my health insurance that I barely even use! Even worse, I don't even have the OPTION for maternity coverage!!! That I know of anyway... I know I could always go get a job that has benefits, but I am proud of myself and my home business. I don't want to give it up because of the backwards health care system!

Just curious if this has happened to anyone else, tell me your story so we can vent together....

I am thinking about just canceling my health insurance policy because I could probably just save the $400.00 a month myself into a savings account. That way I am not throwing it all away to make the health insurance company rich. That is nearly 5 grand a year! I don't think I will ever get sick and need serious medical attention, but you can never predict the future. It would just figure that if I cancel the policy I will probably have to go to the emergency room or something. I hope the next president will fix this disaster of a system we have, it just drives me crazy. It is like they want us to get sick or something, like they don't want us to be able to have health care. Or how about if I need health care I just go in disguise and pretend I am an illegal alien, then they would hand it out like candy!

Jessica, I would keep the health insurance. I also have a home business and have to buy my own health insurance. I randomly was attacked by a rabid dog and if I didn't have my health insurance I would be in the red right now. I never thought in a million years I would be attacked by a freakin' rabid dog, but look what the world will throw at you. You would be kicking yourself if something like this happened to you if you cancel your policy.

Man Bruno, that is crazy!! I got attacked by a cat once, but not a rabid dog. Sorry my friend! Well Jessica23, I understand where you are coming from. I saw this guy on the news the other day that got married with a woman just to get health insurance coverage. Is that crazy or what?? I own an exotic dancing business, but I was able to get a small group health policy to cover me and my dancers. Ay yiy yiy!! Keep ya head up girl!!  Wink
