College

Hello. A couple days ago, my mother approached me regarding taking out a life insurance policy on me. I don't know why she would need to do that. Is she planning on hitting me with her car and collecting the death benefit? She said it was because of college, but I don't understand.

I can understand where your mother is coming from. It is common when parents are cosigners for their kid's college loans. If anything were to happen to you, then they would have to pay off your loans for you. If she's willing to pay the life insurance premiums, then you shouldn't fret about it. She'll probably only make the face amount for how much you owe on your loans plus interest. Your mom isn't trying to upset you. She's just trying to ensure that her assets are covered.

This is very responsible of your parents. Not only will it protect the school loans, but it will also start you on a path of financial security. You will become used to being responsible with finances when you have a life insurance policy.

I took a policy out for my son. I am the cosigner on his student loans, car and his credit cards... Your mom is making a wise decision.
