House Resolution 912 was introduced to the U.S. House of Representatives on July 12, 2006, designating September 2006 as Life Insurance Awareness Month. This is the third straight year the life insurance industry has sponsored the event. If the resolution passes, this will also be the third straight year the House has endorsed the event.
"Life insurance is an affordable financial planning tool that all families should explore. It can help provide much-needed security in the event of an untimely death," said Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski (D-Pa.), a lead sponsor of the resolution.
The event is coordinated by the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE). Nearly 100 life insurance companies and 15 trade associations will participate this year, with many introducing advertising campaigns and educational programs for consumers. LIFE has retained Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton as this year's official spokesperson.
We view Life Insurance Awareness Month as a significant event within our industry. Awareness is so important as some estimates show the number of Americans lacking sufficient life insurance at around 70 million.
