More Children Covered by Health Insurance
12/13/2007
Health Insurance
By: Tim Bain

The newest numbers regarding uninsured Americans are out from the U.S. Government. A recently released survey shows roughly 42.5 million Americans do not have health insurance. This number is up from approximately 41 million in 1997. The survey was conducted by the U.S. Centers for Diease Control and Prevention.

Working-age adults appear to be the group with the most uninsured. 22 percent of employed adults had no health insurance during part of the past year. 52 percent of unemployed adults were uninsured at some point during the previous twelve months.

More children are now covered by health insurance policies as compared to 1997. 8.6 percent of children (6.4 million) today are uninsured, while 13.9 percent (9.9 million) had no health insurance in 1997.
