The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) recently released the results of a nationwide survey that show consumers are confused about the need to purchase auto coverage on rental cars.
- 42 percent of respondents admitted they were either thoroughly confused or only had a rough idea about the need for coverage when renting a car.
- 34 percent said they purchased the additional coverage from the rental company ‘just in case.’
The NAIC urges consumers to be aware of their coverages before signing rental car agreements. Many personal auto insurance policies extend coverage to rentals. And many credit card companies provide rental insurance benefits, provided the reservation was secured with the credit card.
