What is the story behind the Allstate logo?

The insurance company was initially founded in 1931 and has been thriving ever since. As a multifaceted insurance company, Allstate has needed a logo that conveys its ability to protect customers with various insurance coverages. The logo displayed in 1955 encompassed the slogan that Allstate still uses today.

If you’ve ever seen an Allstate commercial, you’re likely familiar with the company’s tagline: “You’re in good hands.” By using this phrase, Allstate has marketed itself as a safe place to position all your insurance concerns, and the logo conveys this as well.

Allstate’s logos have varied over the years, but they all seem to orbit that trademark phrase the company loves. Since 1955, Allstate has included a pair of outstretched hands in every logo.

Previous versions of the logo even revealed a home cradled protectively in the palms of hands. However, as the company has improved its offerings, they’ve switched to open hands. This conveys that no matter what insurance you acquire with Allstate, you will be protected within the company’s reach.

How have Allstate’s logos changed over the years?

As technology has rapidly increased over the last 70 years, so have logos and marketing decisions. Having changed logos four times since 1955 — each adding a new air of simplicity — Allstate isn’t an exception to the rule. According to Logos-World, these are some of Allstate’s various logos throughout the years:

  • 1955 – The first logo on record displayed the classic phrase above the company name, including a picture of hands on the left holding a home.
  • 1969 – The company chose a more extensive and bold font. Hands are now located beneath the logo, with “You’re in good hands with Allstate” wrapped around it.
  • 1999 – With the readily available color printers, Allstate switched to a light blue version of the font from the ’69 logo. The hands are now empty and enveloped in a blue circle.
  • 2006 – The font is a centimeter shorter than the previous logo, and the circle around the hands is much bolder.
  • 2017 – Allstate is now in a different font, the hands have been moved to the right of the company name, and the lines surrounding the hands have decreased in width.

As with most companies, Allstate has grown and changed over the years to become one of the most famous insurers in the country.

When a company has been around for over 90 years, it makes sense that it would want to rebrand and remain up-to-date with modern consumers. What’s essential is that Allstate still wants its customers to know they are in good hands, regardless of when they signed on.

When was Allstate founded?

Allstate was initially founded in 1931, based out of Northbrook, Illinois. The name Allstate derives from a brand of tire sold by Sears, who backed the start of this insurance company. Allstate originally began as a vehicle insurer and sold its first policy on May 17, 1931 for $41.60 a year.

Some other important mentions in Allstate’s history include the following:

  • 1934 – The first Allstate sales building opened in a Chicago Sears store
  • 1939 – Allstate began adjusting rates based on age, mileage, and car usage
  • 1949 – Written premiums sat around $45.3 million
  • 1950 – The “You’re in good hands with Allstate” slogan was born
  • 1993 – Allstate went public when Sears began selling off noticeable percentages of the company

Allstate has been around for a long time, and the insurance company has used that time to maximize its position.

Has Allstate procured or been acquired in its history?

With a company that’s been around for over 90 years, Allstate has consistently proven its ability to dominate the market, no matter the circumstances. This extends to buying insurance companies and operating under the Allstate banner.

Allstate has achieved several acquisitions throughout its history:

  • American Heritage Life Investment Corporation – 1999
  • White Mountains Insurance Group – 2011
  • SquareTrade – 2016
  • InfoArmor – 2018
  • National General Insurance – 2020

With a company that has grown to become one of the dominating forces in the market, it’s only a part of the territory to acquire new Allstate insurance companies. Allstate has done so in the past to expand its profits and the coverage that it offers. By purchasing these companies, all of their employees have the opportunity to continue to work for Allstate.

What policies does Allstate offer?

Allstate can be a one-stop-shop for insurance due to the number of insurance policies currently offered by the company. Currently, Allstate insurance offers life, home, renters, and auto insurance policies. If you purchase more than one policy from Allstate, there’s a good chance you can bundle them together and save on your rates.

  • Whole Life – This covers your entire life and deposits a portion of your premiums into a savings account that you can borrow against.
  • Universal Life – With this policy, you’ll be allowed to adjust your death benefit and premiums to handle changing financial circumstances.
  • Term Life – The most affordable coverage only lasts for a period of your life unless you obtain a renewable rider.

With these life insurance options, you’ll be able to rest a little easier knowing that your family will have the financial means to succeed if something were to happen to you.

What vehicle insurance does Allstate provide?

If you live somewhere that becomes inhospitable or more dangerous due to an accident, there’s a good chance that Allstate will cover it.

Allstate Logo and Insurance Company: The Bottom Line

Allstate is a company that has been flourishing for over 90 years, becoming one of the most well-known insurance companies today. However, the logo doesn’t reflect their success; rather, it shows the customer that Allstate desires to be safe and comforting. Allstate plans to do this by being a one-stop-shop for various insurance policies.
